Saturday, February 24, 2007 - Today, a team of Belgian horses pulled a cart of happy riders through the city of North Adams. Owned and operated by a farmer in Williamstown, these horses were here for the day offering free rides.
The Belgian horse is the direct descendent of the “Great Horse” of medieval times that carried knights into battle. This is the genetic source of all modern day draft horses. They weigh in around 2,000 pounds and stand 16 to 18 hands tall. These are very docile animals that love people and are not spooked by traffic. These are two very beautiful specimens, indeed.
This is one of those rare and cool events that happen in and around North Adams.
How totally cool! ![]()

A year ago last October, that being 2005, the Budweiser Clydesdales were in town for the big parade. That was quite a spectacular show, pulling the big beer wagon with riders and a dalmation dog, but they didn’t offer free rides to the people of North Adams.
