MCLA Dance Studio, Campus Center
Children, ages 7 – 11, 6:30 – 7:30

The perfect opportunity for adults and kids to shake their groove thing. You’ll have so much fun you won’t even realize what a great workout you’re getting! Children’s class runs first (we assume parents can amuse themselves) followed by Mom and/or Dad’s turn, while we provide babysitters. If you don’t have kids (or if you don’t want to be seen in public with your parents), each class may be taken separately as well.
Parent/Child Writing Workshop – Maude Rich & Jenn Mattern
Saturday, July 14
9 am – 3 pm
Church Street Center Social Hall
Two acclaimed writer-moms present a day for you and your child to tap into your inner J.K. Rowling or Dr. Seuss. Parents and tots will separate into their own classes, meet for lunch, go back to finish writing projects, and reunite for final presentations.
Introduction to Photography-film and digital – Gillian Jones
Wednesdays, August 1 – 22
7 – 8:30
Church Street Center Computer Lab
Whether you want to know how to shoot better photos with your new digital camera or you still enjoy taking pictures with your film SLR or point and shoot camera, learn to be a better photographer by understanding your camera and what it can do. This course is for amateur and intermediate photographers who seek an introduction to basic photographic techniques with applications in both film and digital media. The course covers camera handling, principles of exposure, and picture context. Additional consideration will be given to camera controls including shutter speed and aperture, lighting, composition, basic flash technique and camera care. The course is based on a series of photographic assignments, which will demand the application of skills learned in class. Students will share and discuss their photos not only with the instructor but also with the class, and will learn how to take better photos.
Robotics Fun Camp – Paul Allen
July 23-27
8:45 am – 4:30 pm
Campus Center, Rooms 324A & B
A learning experience disguised as fun for boys and girls interested in science and robotics. Working with the Legos Mindstorms Robotics System, campers will learn all the skills they need to construct new robotics kits. Additional science projects, field trips, swimming, games and movies provide campers with a well-rounded learning and recreational experience. Geared toward the middle school student, but techno-savvy younger kids enjoy it too.
Fun with Photos & Design – Keith Bona
Tuesday, August 14 & Thursday, August 16
9 am – 12 noon

Have fun while learning how to use computer programs to add effects to photos, and make t-shirts with your design. Learn to scan photos and use PhotoShop, one of the best photo-editing applications available. This hands-on course is perfect for the artistic student who loves computers or the computer whiz with a creative side.
Garden Design: Making the Most of Your Shrubs – David Pittelli
Wednesday, June 6
6:30 – 8:30 pm
Church Street Center Classroom 1
Many people in this region have middle-aged or older houses with established plantings dominated by shrubs. This class aims to help homeowners make the most of their existing shrubs, on the grounds that, compared to ripping things out and starting over, rejuvenating what you’ve got is free or cheap, more environmentally sound, and quicker than growing or buying new plants. We will look especially at analyzing some locally common shrubs for problems and potential, and the purposes and methods of pruning, especially of woody plants which have never seen the knife.

So excited to be working with the fabulous magical Maude Rich on the Writing Workshop Project! We are really looking forward to this collaboration.
A request: Would it be possible for the blog administrator to fix the spelling of my name? I’m a Jenn with 2 n’s…can that be fixed on all print materials too? I’d be grateful! Thank you!
