From Maynard Seider, in MCLA’s Sociology Department:
While inequality in the U.S. grows dramatically and the social safety net continues to weaken, Western Europeans see strong welfare states as necessary counters to unrestrained capitalism, and are willing to pay high taxes to support generous social benefits. On Wed., April 18th, at 7 p.m. in Murdock 218, Professor of Sociology James Russell will discuss his new book examining the history and current state of comparative social policies between European states and the U.S. Russell has been a senior Fulbright Lecturer and Researcher in Mexico and the Czech Republic and currently teaches at Eastern Connecticut State University. All are welcome to his presentation, sponsored by the Sociology/Anthropology/Social Work Dept., the Education Dept., and the History/Political Science/Geography Dept. at MCLA.
