China

We’ve received a few dispatches from the Far East. Retired History Professor Dan Connerton sent us this excellent shot of him riding a camel. Dan writes

“As I start to my final exam together, I thought you all might be interested in what has turned out to be my “R&B Spoken English Class” for Chinese! I’m having my students research certain web sites, give reports on what they find, and prepare for questions and comments from their fellow students.

I “think” the students are enjoying the course. They do the research, come to class, and do learn about the West, USA, and Americans. It is a lot of work and frustration however, because the students have so many classes (ten per semester) and don’t get much opportunity to speak English. I have also made a blog so that the students are always be able to check on their assignments.

Also, Chris Gauthier is one of our recent alums teaching English at Hebei University in China this year. You can follow his experiences on his blog - Chris in China - Blogging from Baoding.

Ni hao Chris and Dan, thanks for the updates!

Wow! What a nice pictures! I want to see more! Boy I miss traveling. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to go to the Far East: I’ve only visited Mexico.

I like the picture Dr. Connerton. I really appreciate that you helped me study abroad way back in 1992 in Ireland. It was a great experience and you helped make it happen. Thank you. My wife and I like to travel and see the world, hopefully we’ll make it to China someday. Take care and good luck. Daniel Fleming Class of 1994
