Last Fair Deal — Railway Cafe

October 17th, 2007 · No Comments

Well, the Railway Cafe is off to a great seventh season after the Garnet Rogers performance in September. This month continues the fun with local favorites, Last Fair Deal. Some of you may know Williamstown guy, Todd Howard, who is one quarter of this bluegrass/roots quartet. He and his dad and friends from CT make up the rest of the “rambunctous and fun-loving” (Boston Globe) band.

Last Fair Deal redraws the map of American roots music with fluid energy and creativity. LFD’s live performance, with stellar vocals and unique acoustic synergy, will captivate any audience. Last Fair Deal has an eclectic repertoire drawing on old-time string-band, bluegrass, swing and popular music. The band’s live performances feature originals from their latest CD, True Tales, and their previous three albums. They put their own spin on classics by Hank Williams, Dan Hicks, Lennon/McCartney, John Hiatt and Bob Dylan.

The Farmington Valley Post says they’ve got “…instrumental prowess, impressive vocals…a blend of genres bringing something truly unique to the acoustic roots scene.” Sing Out! magazine states, “Lively… Solid… A complete new acoustic package worthy of attention beyond just the East Coast.

The band features Paul Howard on vocals and guitar; Tom Hagymasi on vocals, fiddle, bouzouki and accordian, Phil Zimmerman on vocals, mandolin and banjo; and Todd Howard on vocals and bass guitar. You can catch them all at the Railway show next Friday, Oct 26th at 7:30 at MCLA’s Gallery 51, 51 Main St., North Adams, MA.
