Today, the end of our trip has come. I’m home now, sitting in the living room of my townhouse with my housemates. I can’t believe how incredibly long, but yet incredibly short this week was. I’m pooped to the max and I can’t believe classes start tomorrow. I’m apologizing in advance if this blog seems disjointed because I am so tired it’s hard to create a coherent thought.
We woke up bright and early to check out of the hotel and then head to City Center for a performance of “God’s Trombones” by Craig Harris. It featured a couple of singers, a dancer, and a brass choir of trombones. I went into the performance half asleep, but by the end I was wide awake. It was just incredibly powerful and soulful and all of us were moved. Then a couple of us headed downstairs to the dance studio for a showcase of dance companies. Most of them were good and others were just OK. The Koresh Dance Company was the final one we saw and it was so good. Erica and I pretty much peed all over ourselves because they were just doing crazy cool things.
Finally, we traveled to Italy for the final meal of the trip. My mom made a comment to me tonight because I go on forever about the food we’ve eaten in these blogs – but it’s really one of the best parts about this trip. We ate at Carmine’s, which I had been looking forward to all week. It was a family style Sicilian restaurant and I can’t even tell you what I ate because I stuffed myself full with everything we ordered. Especially the dessert. It was mmmmm…YUMMY! And our waitress had a good amount of spunk which added some humor to the evening.
Our final dinner together
On the bus ride home we talked about how it’s so weird that the eleven of us, thirteen counting Jonathan and Sean – how weird it will be to not be with these people anymore. It reminds me of being part of a cast in a play – how you all bond and become like one big somewhat dysfunctional family, and within a matter of minutes it’s all done. We’ve spent pretty much all of the last six days together and we experienced some crazy things and some beautiful things and it’s an experience I’m sure none of us will forget. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity and I will look back on the trip with fond memories. Thanks for hearing me out on these blogs. It’s been fun and I’ve looked forward to writing them each night. But I guess that’s it for me! Tata!
