Joe Student saves a document as a PDF

When possible, please save your documents as a PDF before you upload them to your learning portfolio. PDF documents tend to be much smaller than the same document in Word, Powerpoint or Excel. Also, your readers may not be on a computer that has Microsoft Office, but may in fact be looking at your work from a Blackberry or I-Phone. We’ve put together to ways to learn how to do this, you can watch the video or view the PDF document.

Best Practices – Saving to a porfolio first

When uploading documents, place them in your portfolio first, then link them to any learning communities you want to share them with. That way, you always have a copy in your own portfolio, even if the course or learning community goes away or gets archived. Leave a comment with a tip you’d like to share or request a tutorial.

Joe Student Uploads to Student Life

Joe Student has been busy working with his diversity project for his club. Once he thinks he’s got it perfected, he saves the document in Word as a PDF and then logs in to Digication, navigates to the Student Life learning community finds the Diversity assignment. He uploads his artifact into Digication and BAM! He is done!

Once he thinks he’s got it perfected, he saves the document in Word as a PDF and then logs in to Digication, navigates to the First Year Experience course and finds the learning outcome that matches his assignment. He uploads his assignment into Digication and BAM! He is done!

Learning Portfolios at MCLA

If you’ve been paying attention to the monitors in the Cafe or the posters on the walls of campus, you’ll have seen signs that Learning Portfolios are coming to MCLA.

The Learning Portfolio group has created this site to help you navigate the learning portfolio process with videocasts, tips and tricks on what to put into your portfolio, ideas on how to organize it and instructions on how to share your portfolio with friends, family and future employers.

Learning Portfolios at MCLA offer you a way to display your personal and professional growth through technology. You can map a path of success and achieve it step-by-step, documenting your achievements along the way. You will gain a sense of accomplishment with each new entry and use this vehicle to showcase your work and talents.
